Frequently asked questions

Is Elicina also useful for old scars?

Generally speaking, old scars are much harder to mitigate than those that have recently formed. Therefore, the results may take longer to appear.
Using the cream twice a day, you may not start to notice the changes until the third or fourth month. It is possible to use Elicina 3 times a day, as long as it is not on the face, as it is a very delicate area.
With consistency, you will notice the results.
It is important to bear in mind that all skin types are different and so are the types of scars, therefore, without a doubt, there will be those who achieve results sooner than others.

I have a lot of stretch marks after pregnancy. Can Elicina help me to reduce them?

Stretch marks are scarred skin lesions, and they occur due to a fragmentation of the dermis and epidermis when these layers are not elastic enough to compensate for the “mechanical” or hormonal factors that cause stretching.
Depending on the level of scarring, stretch marks have a different colour:
1-Reddish-purple stretch marks: these are the recently formed stretch marks, in the initial stage of scarring, and are the easiest to treat with Elicina.
2-Pale pink stretch marks: this is when scar tissue begins to form, and they can be attenuated with Elicina, although it takes more time to do so (at least one month).
3-Pearly white stretch marks: this is the phase in which the damaged tissue has been regenerated, which is why the definitive scar is present. In this phase, cosmetic treatments normally do not give results.
On the other hand, Elicina has shown that visible results are obtained in just two months of daily application and scientifically proven in the finest white stretch marks.
We recommend applying it to areas of the body where there are stretch marks and being very consistent in using it so that the results are noticeable.

Can Elicina help me fight vitiligo?

No. Studies have been conducted on people affected by vitiligo, but unfortunately no positive results have been obtained.

On dry and sensitive skin, how should I use Elicina?

For drier and more delicate skin, we recommend using Elicina Plus Cream, the version enriched with moisturiser and emollients, particularly indicated for this type of skin.
Another alternative is to use Elicina Cream together with a good moisturising cream for dry skin, thus counteracting the discomfort caused by the small amount of glycolic acid naturally contained in snail slime.

Can Elicina be used in children?

Yes, Elicina is a cream suitable for all ages and all skin types. COANIQUEM, Corporation for Aid to Burned Children, in Chile, is a society that helps children with burns and uses it in the treatment of its patients (children from 6 months to 20 years), with excellent results.

How is it applied to the skin?

We recommend applying Elicina morning and evening in small quantities on clean skin, massaging gently.
On the face, we do not recommend applying the cream more than twice a day to avoid an excessive exfoliating effect, as this is a delicate area of our body.
In other areas, Elicina can be used up to 3 times a day, such as on old scars, where it takes longer to see results.
In the event of any undesirable reaction, reduce applications or discontinue treatment.
Avoid contact with eyes. In such cases, rinse with plenty of water.

Is it possible to apply Elicina on a surgical scar?

After surgery, thick scars often remain, which look like rough “cords” of a darker colour, called keloids.
Applying Elicina twice a day can reduce the thickness of these keloids, making them less rough and giving them a pigmentation more similar to that of healthy skin, to the point of being imperceptible.
In the case of surgical scars, always seek advice from your doctor before starting treatment with Elicina.

If I suffer from allergies, can I use Elicina?

The discussion about allergies is quite complex. You may be allergic to a particular cosmetic ingredient, but testing is the only way to identify which product.
This is why all cosmetics producers and distributors are required by law to detail the full list of ingredients contained. Therefore, if you are allergic to an ingredient, you can identify it on the product packaging itself.
To further ensure the safety of our customers, we have also decided to publish the full list of ingredients in the sections of each of the products on our website.

If I expose myself to the sun with Elicina, will I get spots on my skin?

No. Elicina Cream, Elicina Plus and Elicina XT Eye Contour do not directly cause the formation of spots during sun exposure, because they do not contain perfume. The natural concentration of glycolic acid is so low that it does not cause chromatic alterations. Its effect is compensated by the presence of nourishing and regenerating substances such as allantoin, collagen, elastin, mucopolysaccharides and vitamins, naturally contained in snail slime.
These precious substances also act as an express “after sun” to soften and regenerate skin that is reddened and irritated by the sun.
During hours of sun exposure, we recommend always using high sun protection on the face, especially if you have been using Elicina for a long time. The skin will have been highly regenerated and will be “newer”, so it could be more sensitive and prone to developing spots in people with this tendency.
Remember that the value of Elicina products is to help skin regeneration and, therefore, to effectively combat wrinkles, acne marks, spots and scars. For this type of application, it is always advisable to start, whatever the regenerative treatment, at the end of the exposure period, especially if the skin is delicate and prone to marks and dischromia.

Can Elicina help me with acne?

Yes. Elicina can be an excellent adjuvant in the treatment of acne. It effectively combats acne defects such as scars, dark pigmentation marks, redness and oily skin. This is demonstrated by strict efficacy tests and always positive opinions from our consumers.
The reasons why Elicina is so effective lie in the natural properties of its active ingredient in high concentration. Up to 80%.
Glycolic acid is present in snail slime in a bioavailable form and in the right concentration to keep the skin clean, regenerated, soft and without acne marks over time, thanks to its delicate exfoliating effect. The purifying effect of glycolic acid is reinforced by the presence in the slime of special peptides that help keep bacteria and other microorganisms away. In addition, glycolic acid has a slightly astringent effect that regulates sebum production over time.
The contribution of allantoin contributes, with its calming effect, to attenuate redness and irritation.
In just two months of treatment, acne scars are noticeably reduced, and in some cases visible improvements have been reported after just three weeks of treatment, using it morning and night.
Consistency over time rewards the best results.
We recommend applying Elicina to the entire face, massaging gently, a maximum of twice a day.

I have a problem with ingrown hairs. Can Elicina help me?

Ingrown hairs are a problem that can occur after waxing or shaving and affect both men and women.
Applied immediately after waxing or shaving and with regular use, Elicina helps exfoliate the skin that retains the hair, leaving it free. At the same time, Elicina can penetrate the follicle, thus helping to prevent possible infections caused by an encapsulated hair, attenuating irritation and leaving the skin soft and elastic.

Are there any contraindications to using Elicina with other cosmetics?

No. In fact, we advise people with dry skin to apply a moisturising cream after applying Elicina.
If you want to use it simultaneously with other treatments based on glycolic acid, we recommend consulting a dermatologist, as the exfoliation could be excessive and harmful to the skin.

Will Elicina help me reduce wrinkles?

Yes. Elicina helps reduce and mitigate wrinkles thanks to the natural regenerative, exfoliating and nourishing capacity of snail slime extract. Elicina contains 80% of this extract.
It is important to remember that the face is the part of the body with the most delicate skin, so you should not apply the cream more than twice a day.
Prepare your skin before each application with a good cleansing and a toner that is suitable for you. If you have dry skin, we suggest you read point 5 of the FAQ. If you feel a feeling of tightness caused by the exfoliating action of Elicina or by the absence of moisturiser, you can apply a moisturising cream of your choice. Use it after Elicina to avoid this type of discomfort or reduce the application of our cream to just once a day.
After the first month of use, you will be able to see the results in both expression lines and wrinkles.

I have a wart on my face, can Elicina help me get rid of it?

Yes. In the past, Chilean farmers would put live snails on warts and, apparently, they would disappear in a short time. With the passage of time and the progress of technology and with the discovery of Mr. Bascuñán, it has been possible to take this active ingredient of snail slime to a higher level, a cosmetic cream based on snail slime, free of bacteria and dermatologically tested. It is only necessary to apply Elicina on the wart and the surrounding area, twice a day in small quantities and you will see the results in a short time.

I have sensitive skin. I have been using Elicina for a week and my skin is red, flaky and irritated. What is the cause?

People with very sensitive skin may have this reaction. It is the skin's response to the natural exfoliating agent, glycolic acid. It is important to note that if a person with very sensitive skin applies the cream without paying attention to the recommended amount and frequency, especially on the face, the skin may react in this way. It is advisable to first clean the face with warm water and a neutral soap. Then, continue with the skin preparation process by applying a moisturising cream, especially on the most affected areas. This will ensure a better result, avoiding an aggressive reaction. Next, apply Elicina in small quantities. The general rule is to apply Elicina twice a day. In the case of very sensitive skin, apply it only once, following the process described above. If the discomfort persists, stop using the product.

Using Elicina on my face for acne marks, I have noticed that small pimples form. How is this possible?

The purifying effect of snail slime can sometimes cause impurities to accumulate under the skin in a single spot, which are then released by the exfoliating action of the cream. It should be noted that this usually occurs after the first applications. If the problem persists for more than a week or so and the spots do not disappear, discontinue use of Elicina.

Is Elicina® better than other creams made with natural snail slime?

Definitely. Elicina® was the first natural snail extract cream made in the world. All other snail extract creams are imitations of Elicina®, the original product whose quality has never been equaled.
Other creams contain a lower percentage of snail extract, and many claim to contain more than they really do.
Elicina® is internationally renowned and is sold in more than 25 countries.

Is Elicina® better than synthetic “snail slime” creams?

Of course. Synthetic “snail slime” creams are products that artificially imitate the components of natural snail slime. Some of them contain higher percentages of allatoin, collagen, elastin, glycolic acid and synthetic antibiotics than those found in natural slime, BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE THEM BETTER. It is a question of QUALITY and not of QUANTITY or CONCENTRATION of the ingredients. Natural allatoin produces a regeneration of skin cells far superior to that achieved by any product containing artificial allatoin… And the same can be said of all the bio-available elements present in natural snail slime: their effects and assimilation are superior to those achieved by their synthetic reproductions. When have artificial substances been seen to be better than the natural products they seek to imitate?
Elicina® cream contains natural ingredients that are fully compatible with the living cells of human skin. Its application provides our skin with the organic components it needs to rebuild and repair itself, in a healthy and safe way. Without a doubt, NATURE KNOWS BEST.

Is it true that the quality of snail slime can vary depending on the seasons or the way the snails are handled?

This is not the case with Elicina® cream. The snails used to make Elicina® are kept all year round in optimal conditions of hygiene, nutrition, humidity and temperature, so the quality of their slime does not have to vary according to the seasons. As for the handling of the snails, the company “Cosméticos Elicina Ltda.” has the best procedures in the world for the care of these little animals and for the collection of their extract. In fact, the snails used to make Elicina® are not harmed at all during the process of collecting their slime.
The Lacofar laboratory controls that the quality and proportion of its ingredients is always the same.

Does natural snail slime cream have an unpleasant smell or consistency?

Not at all. Elicina® cream is odourless and does not have a “slimy” or greasy consistency. It is a very light skin cream with a pleasant consistency.

Does Elicina® work better than other creams?

Elicina® has been designed to be as natural as possible. Because of this, it contains 80% natural snail slime and only 20% excipients. Unlike other creams, no moisturiser, colorants or perfumes are added.
This is why Elicina® performs better than other products. When you buy other creams, you are usually paying for a large percentage of moisturiser and artificial substances, but not for natural snail slime.

Can Elicina® be used during pregnancy?

Elicina® cream is excellent for preventing the appearance of stretch marks during pregnancy. It can be applied during this period without any problem, as it does not contain any toxic substances that could be dangerous for the mother or the unborn baby.

Is Elicina® cream useful for treating cellulite?

Recent studies have shown that natural snail slime helps to gradually reduce cellulite, that is, to fade the so-called “orange peel skin”. It requires more prolonged use.

How long does it take to see results with Elicina® cream?

The time required to obtain results depends on the skin problem being treated and varies in each particular case. IT IS CLAIMED that (on average) in cases of acne, skin spots and wrinkles caused by the sun, results begin to be seen after two weeks of use. In cases of deep cell regeneration, such as stretch marks, scars, burns and cellulite, evident progress is achieved after the first month of use.
It is important to note that the treatment of any skin problem with Elicina® requires continuous and persevering use of the product. Naturally regenerating skin cells is a process that requires some time, but the results obtained are safe, irreversible and evident.

Are there any contraindications to using Elicina® with other cosmetics?

No. In fact, people with dry skin are advised to apply a moisturising or nourishing cream of their choice after using Elicina®.

Will Elicina® help me reduce wrinkles?

Yes. Elicina® will help you reduce and attenuate wrinkles thanks to the great regenerative, exfoliating and natural nutritional capacity of the snail extract (Elicina contains 80% snail extract).
It is important to remember that the face is the part of the body with the most delicate skin, therefore the cream should not be applied more than twice a day.
Prepare your skin before each application of Elicina® with a good cleansing and a facial toner according to your skin type. If you have dry skin, we suggest applying a moisturiser after using Elicina®.
Within the first month of use, you should have seen results with expression lines and wrinkles.
